The River Irthing is crossed at this point by the modern bridge built in 1962 and the old two arched bridge which was renovated in 1998.

The building in the right of the photo was formerly a mill fed by the Quarry Beck. A footpath follows this stream south almost to Brampton.

The Abbey Bridge Hotel and bridge area have long been a popular stop off point for visitors.

The low buiding adjacent to the Hotel appears formerly to have been a smithy. The millstone on the ground was probably from the mill across the road.

The stepping stones probably were used by servants of Naworth Castle to reach the Priory.

The old bridge is now closed to traffic and the former road north of the bridge has several seats and picnic tables.
