The view from the west nave beneath
the vaulted tower to the chancel was probably obscured by a rood screen.
The dormitory may well have served the locality as an infirmary.
The refectory undercroft was probably used as a storage area. Ovens can
still be seen in the south corners of the first floor of the Dacre Tower
which, no doubt, required large amounts of logs.
Today the Lanercost Cross is reduced to a stump. Part of the cross later
used as a grave stone is now situated in the north aisle of the nave.
